Buffalo River Handbook. 2004. Kenneth L. Smith. The Ozark Society Foundation, University of Arkansas Press. This book has chapters on Land, Life, People, The Park, The River, and Trails. It is the most comprehensive guide to the Buffalo River. Ken is still leading trail crews in the Buffalo watershed and has a lifetime of experience in the area. This handy guide coordinates descriptions of the main sites along the river for common paddling reaches with the mile markers in the Trails Illustrated Topographic Maps (see Maps page). Buffalo River Hiking Trails. 2010. Tim Ernst. Cloudland Publishing. This hiking guide has good information on access and detailed trail descriptions for several trails in the Buffalo River watershed. Ernst is well-known for photography in the region and has also published several other hiking guides focused on Arkansas and the Ozarks. See his website for other guides.
